Do you know what’s running your car and what is under the hood? Some of people call it as an engine, and some say it a power mill, powerhouse, pacemaker or motor. You can call whatever you like, but the primary thing is that is whole sole of the vehicle and everything starts here and ends here.

Working of Car Engines and Components

The combustion chamber is the central part of the engine where the magic happens. Here fuel, air, pressure and electricity all come together and produce small explosions which move car’s piston up and down, thus giving power to the vehicle.

The combustion chamber is made up of the cylinder, piston, and cylinder head. The car engine is built around a set of ‘cooking pots’ known as cylinders. These durable metal cylinders are sealed at one end and are connected with tight-fitting pistons which slides up and down. At the top, there is a sparking plug which does a job to make a spark which causes fire in the fuel. At bottom, the piston is attached to a continuously rotating axle called crankshaft. The crankshaft gives power to vehicle gearbox which in turn drives cars.
